Poker is a card game played with two or more people. Players bet into the pot, which is placed in the middle of the table. The highest hand wins the pot. It is often described as a game of chance, but there is some skill involved as well.
The game is usually played from a standard pack of 52 cards, plus one or more wild cards (usually jokers). All poker hands contain five cards. A straight is a series of cards of consecutive rank, but different suits. A flush is three matching cards of the same rank, all from the same suit. A full house is two pair and a single unmatched card. Ties are broken by looking at the highest card in each hand.
When betting comes around to you, you can call (match the last raise or bet) by saying “call” or ‘I call’. You can also pass (not call) and let someone else take your turn to act.
It is important to always respect the dealers. They are there to help the game run smoothly and they should never be given a hard time. It is also a good idea to avoid complaining about bad beats, as this can make everyone uncomfortable at the table and spoil the fun.
