Whether they’re playing blackjack or slots, table games like poker and roulette or one of the many other popular options, casino patrons are, on the surface, pretty diverse. But they all share the same thing – they’re having fun! From the flashy decor and glitzy statues to the music and coin clinking noise, casinos are designed to be an intoxicating escape from reality. And even the most jaded people can’t resist the feeling of excitement that comes over them as they step inside.
But of course, all that euphoria can also make for a dangerous place. With high stakes on the line, it’s no wonder that gamblers are tempted to cheat, steal and scam their way into a jackpot. That’s why casinos spend a lot of time and money on security.
For instance, some casinos have a special security team that keeps an eye on every game in the casino and is trained to spot the most blatant gambling irregularities. Other casinos have gaming software providers whose games are constantly monitored for suspicious betting patterns. And some casinos even have their own forensics labs where they analyze the game data.
Casino may not be as good as a film as Goodfellas or Boogie Nights, but it still has its moments of bravura filmmaking excitement and is an entertaining look at the exploitation of human beings for the sake of greed. Plus, it has Stone, whose performance both builds on and inverts her notoriety as Basic Instinct’s Catherine Tramell. Her ability to hold the camera’s gaze and captivate the audience is almost unmatched by any other actor.
